Lowell Manufacturing
Since its establishment in 1947 by Ben and Dorothy Lowell, Lowell Manufacturing Co. has become a renowned provider of professional audio installation products. Their pioneering work in developing spun aluminum baffles set the stage for their extensive product line, delivering exceptional sound from ceiling installations.
In 1954, the company relocated to Maplewood, MO, expanding its manufacturing capabilities and introducing a line of cabinets under the brand Lowell Metal Works. This expansion also marked the introduction of the world's first plastic molded speaker grille, complementing their existing range of metal baffles and cabinets.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Lowell Manufacturing expanded its offerings, including large volume enclosures for open areas like airports and convention centers. With expertise in packaging components for sound masking speakers, the company thrived. John Lowell joined the company, spearheading marketing efforts for the growing pro A/V market, followed by Wilhelm Lowell, who focused on company operations and new product development.
In 2000, Lowell Manufacturing relocated to Pacific, MO, streamlining operations and incorporating robotic manufacturing and a powder coat paint line. This led to the development of a new line of 19-inch equipment racks and accessories exclusively designed for professional A/V integration.
Expanding further, Lowell introduced power distribution products such as power strips, sequencers, and surge protectors, providing customers with a one-stop solution for system components. Notably, most of their power products are manufactured in the USA, meeting the Buy American Act (BAA) guidelines.
Over the years, Lowell Manufacturing received design patents for innovations like quick-install lay-in-tile ceiling speaker systems, the universal-mount Unihorn®, and key-actuated volume controls. Their volume control line offers a comprehensive range of rack-mount and wall-plate formats, accommodating various power ratings, attenuation steps, and specialty features.
In 2008, Tom Lowell joined his brothers, overseeing material acquisition for the production of over 1,400 products. In 2021, Jarret Lowell joined the team, focusing on sales and business strategy. Continuing the family tradition, Thomas Lowell joined in 2023, contributing his engineering expertise to shape the future vision of Lowell Manufacturing Co.
With a 75-year history, Lowell Manufacturing remains committed to delivering innovative solutions and upholding its position as a leader in the industry.
